Additives
Additives are components that are added to a polymer material to improve processing, handling or certain properties relating to a specific application. Additives form an essential part of almost any material, but their importance is often underestimated. Although additives increase the costs of a material, these costs are easily regained by having a better and more reliable product.
Additives are essential to a vast number of material aspects. For example:
+ Color
+ Durability
+ Stability
+ Thermal resistance
+ Chemical resistance
+ Fire resistance
+ Anti-static
+ Weatherability
+ UV resistance
+ Plasticizing
+ Anti-microbial
+ Melt viscosity
+ Melt strength
+ Impact resistance
+ Adhesion
+ Anti-blocking
+ Compatibility with and adhesion to fillers, polymers or fibers
It is not an easy job to compose the right additive package. The addition of several different additives may result in a synergistic positive effect, however it may also negatively affect certain material properties. When dealing with additives or confronted with malfunctioning materials, working with PolyVation is recommended.
